Hiram Newbern, Jr.

Mr. Hiram Newbern, Jr. was born May 13, 1956 in Brownsville, Tennessee (Haywood County) to the late Hiram Newbern, Sr. and Mattie Belle Austin Newbern. Hiram transitioned to his heavenly home on October 6, 2021 at the Veteran Administration Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Hiram confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Cleaves Memorial C.M.E. Church in Oakland, Tennessee. Hiram attended Fayette Ware High School in Somerville, Tennessee, graduating with the class of 1974. He proudly began serving in the United States Marine Corp; reaching the rank of Lance Corporal. Hiram also attended Memphis Area Vocational Technical School obtaining licenses in Lithographic Photograph and Aircraft Mechanic. He was most proud of being an Aircraft Mechanic working for Federal Express from 1988 until his retirement in 2018. After retirement, he continued sharing his Aircraft Mechanic knowledge as a consultant for Cook Systems until his death. He loved antique cars and restoring them while attending car shows around the United States. Additionally, his skills included laying carpet, tiles, hardwood, etc. He was loved and respected by everyone he met. Hiram was a great person to be around, who never met a stranger. Hiram was proceeded in death by his birth parents, Hiram Sr. and Mattie Belle Austin Newbern; stepmom, Rosie Johnson Newbern; two sisters, Herlene Newbern and Mae Ruby Brown; three brothers, Robert, John, and Bradley Newbern. Hiram leaves to cherish his memories; stepchildren, Jerimiah Young of Louisiana, Terina White of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jermaine White of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Pearlie Mae Washington of Oakland, Tennessee and Anne (Erroll) Ankton of Memphis, Tennessee; three brothers, William (Frances) Newbern of Chicago, Illinois, Pharis Newbern of Mt. Sherman, Kentucky and Joseph (Joyce) Newbern of Oakland, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Newbern and Eva Newbern; and special friend, Jacqueline Gilchrease. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Walk Through viewing Friday, October 15th at Mary Lee Mabone Memorial Chapel Teague Store Road Somerville. Funeral Services Saturday, October 16th Hiram will lie in state from 10:00 - 11:45 at Cleaves Memorial C.M.E. Church Oakland, TN.
